1. Introduction

Smart Money Series ("we," "us," or "our") is a financial literacy platform for children ages 6–18. We take your privacy and your child's privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a parent or guardian.

We are committed to compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Ghana Data Protection Act.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you or your child use Smart Money Series:

Account information: Name, email address, age, and password (stored securely using industry-standard encryption)
Learning progress: Lessons completed, simulation decisions, coins earned, XP, badges, streak data, and weekly goals
Financial tracker data: If your child uses the My Money Tracker feature, any transactions they log (amounts, categories, notes)
Payment information: Processed securely by Paystack. We do not store credit card numbers or mobile money details on our servers
Device information: Browser type, screen size, and general location (country-level only, used for currency display)

We do not collect photos, contacts, precise location, or any data from your child's device beyond what is listed above.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

Save and restore your child's learning progress across sessions and devices
Process subscription payments securely
Display age-appropriate content based on the child's age group
Show progress data to parents through the Parent Dashboard
Improve the platform based on usage patterns (in aggregate, never individually)
Send account-related emails (subscription confirmations, password resets)

We never use your child's data for advertising, marketing, or profiling. We do not show ads in Smart Money Series.

4. How Long We Keep Data

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your data remains accessible for 12 months in case you return. After 12 months of inactivity, we delete all personal data. You can request immediate deletion at any time.

5. Who We Share Data With

We share data only with these trusted service providers, and only what is necessary for them to perform their function:

Paystack: Payment processing (name, email, payment amount)
Firebase / Supabase: Secure database hosting (all progress data)
Email service: Transactional emails only (email address)

We never sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for marketing purposes.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you or your child
Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information
Deletion: Request that we delete all personal data permanently
Data portability: Receive your data in a standard format
Opt-out: Unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Smart Money Series complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar children's privacy laws globally.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. When a child under 13 creates an account:

We require a parent or guardian's email address
We send a verification email to the parent before activating the child's account
The parent can review, update, or delete their child's data at any time
The parent can revoke consent and request account deletion at any time

We do not use children's data for advertising, behavioral targeting, or any purpose other than providing the educational service.

If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13 without proper parental consent, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will delete the data within 48 hours.

8. Security

We protect your data using:

SSL/TLS encryption for all data in transit
Industry-standard password hashing (bcrypt)
Encrypted database storage
Regular security reviews
No sensitive data in server logs

9. Cookies and Tracking

We use only essential cookies required for the app to function (session management, login state). We do not use analytics tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or social media trackers on any page your child uses.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our platform grows. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email and post a notice on the landing page. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
